THE HISTORY OF ANAWRAHTA CRUISE
The name of this magnificent cruise ship is original from the Burmese nation’s founder, King Anawrahta. King Anawrahta was born in 1014. His mother was Myaunk Pyinthe and his father, King Kuhshaw Kyaunghpyu was once the ruler of Pagan. King Kuhshaw was overthrown by his stepbrothers, Kyiso and Sokkate. Anawrahta then learning the betrayal of his father. He challenged Sokkate to a duel and won, bringing back the crown to the family, created a new period in Burmese history. The Anawrahta dynasty lasted for 33 years from 1044 to 1077, which marked a splendorous period of Theravada Buddhism’s spreading throughout Myanmar. In the morning, explore the lively Kalaywa on a local tuk-tuk. Set off your great day tour with a visit to the Pagoda on a hilltop. Here, you are offered a panoramic view of the Kalaywa town and Chindwin River.

Mawlaik was the administrative capital of Sagaing under the British. Unlike most British-occupied towns in Myanmar, Mawlaik’s many colonial buildings aren’t completely dilapidated and still remain nowadays. Your sightseeing starts with a visit to the post office, former British administrative buildings, the house of a former British commissioner.
Afterward, join a mini golf match in Mawlaik Golf Course. Then, enjoy lunch on board. If possible, we will pay a visit to the small village of Kyi Taung Oo and discover the only surviving wood carved monastery.

This morning, embark on the ship of Anawrahta Cruise at the berth of Mandalay and sail north. On board, there will be a lecture on Myanmar culture and a demonstration of Myanmar Traditional Dress.
In the late afternoon, make an ashore excursion of the pottery village of Nwe Nyein where you can find a variety of beautiful pots created with traditional techniques.
Back on the board for a cocktail party followed by a farewell dinner.

In the early afternoon, explore the enchanting colonial town of Katha. Situated on the west bank of the Irrawaddy in northern Sagaing Division, it remains a charming and remote riverside town. Further afield, the local villages and picturesque countryside make Katha a perfect place to explore. You will be taken around the region to explore all the places that appear in the book.
This morning, enjoy a fascinating train ride from Katha to Naba through the lush vegetations and tranquil villages of Kachin State. When you arrive in Naba, we will come back to Katha for a visit to the local market. You can purchase some souvenirs in this market and practice your Burmese language skills with the local people.
In the afternoon, take your time relaxing on the sun deck while the ship keeps sailing up the river to Shwe Gu. Before joining in a lecture on Myanmar history and current affairs, afternoon tea will be served. When the sun goes down, enjoy the gorgeous Burmese sunset moment and take part in a special event taking place on the Kipling’s Bar called “a toast to the past”.
Afterwards, join us for another the movie night on the sun deck after having dinner.
Choose a spot on the sundeck to admire the magnificent view of the Second Delfie as we pass through it early this morning. It will take about 2 hours to navigate through this part of the river depending on how fast the water is flowing. Enjoy your breakfast on the sundeck.
Our return journey starts when the ship make a turn at Sinkat Bridge. After that, we keep sailing through Kyun Daw Island where we take a short tour visiting many small pagodas, rustic villages and meet the local people who live on the river banks of Irrawaddy river.
Lunch will be served onboard as the ship continues to cruise southwards.
After a gourmet dinner, a fascinating traditional dance performance prepared by our lovely staffs will be the highlight of this evening.
In the morning, you can join our yoga and meditation class on the sun deck or the lecture of "Religion in Myanmar" and Burmese language lesson before lunchtime. Afterwards, you may want to attend an exhilarating demonstration of making traditional Burmese Cigar and chewing Betel Nut.
In the early afternoon, we will reach the beautiful fishing village of Hsithe where the local residents find a special method to catch the fish by co - operating with the Irrawaddy dolphins. Here, you will have a chance to learn about the making of the traditional agriculture products and the way to cast a fishing net. After taking a tour around the village, stop at the visitor center for an afternoon tea with the presentations about the river, the wildlife as well as the local people.
Return to the ship for a delicious dinner. Next, joining the open air cinema at the village with the friendly people of Hsithe is interesting activity you cannot miss.
In the morning, enjoy the luxurious facilities of the ship and admire the stunning scenery as we sail to Mandalay. En - route, we pass through Mingun where is famous for owning many significant architectures like unfinished pagoda or the largest bell in the world.
In the late afternoon, we reach Mandalay where you will get off the ship to visit Amarapura. Proceed to visit the traditional silk weaving, silver and bronze casting workshops before heading to the world's longest teak bridge - U Bein to catch the magical sunset moment.
A farewell dinner will be served on board. Then, enjoy the evening entertainment of Ramayana show, a legendary story and performance accompanied with traditional music instruments.

Our staff will warmly welcome and direct you to your accommodation for the next days. The ship casts off towards Sagaing, one of the ancient capitals of Myanmar. Lunch will be served at the restaurant named “Hinta Hall” and enjoy your time at the open air Kipling’s Bar or on the sun deck.
After reaching Sagaing, we will get off and discover some significant attractions of Sagaing and the former royal capital of Ava. We will explore this place by horse-drawn carriage. You will be amazed by many kinds of incredible ancient monasteries and fanes.
After coming back to the ship, you will have a chance to learn about some Burmese traditions like Longyi and Thanaka demonstration. Besides, an interesting presentation about the history and culture of Myanmar will help you know more about this golden land.

In the early morning, let’s awaken your mind and body by joining in a yoga session on the sun deck. Our ship keeps sailing to Yandabo.
After having breakfast, a lecture about Bagan’s history will be given at the Mandalay Lounge. This morning you can lie on the lounge on the sundeck wallowing in the serene atmosphere or go to the spa for a pampering treatment.
In the afternoon, the ship arrives at Yandabo where to sign the Peace Treaty putting an end to the first Anglo - Burmese war. Nowadays, the village is famous nationwide for the making of fine pottery products of which keep the water cool longer. Our professional guide will direct and explain to you about their pottery-making process. You can even try to make your own item.
Then, return to the ship for a delightful tea party. Pakkoku is our next overnight spot. On the route to Pakkoku, we will pass the meeting of the Ayeyarwady and its greatest tributary, Chindwin River.
When the night falls, dress up for an interesting event at the Kipling’s Bar - “A toast to the past” where to enjoy a delicious glass of cocktails and share some stories about the old British - Burmese days.

We will disembark to visit some small industries in this area like a cheroot-rolling factory and a Burmese slipper workshop. Next, we take a leisurely walk at the local market to have a glimpse of the local trade and daily life. Moreover, you can buy some Burmese cigars as souvenirs for friends or family as tobacco is also the famous product of Pakokku.

For other guests, the trip continue with a morning tour of the vibrant Nyaung - U market and the revered Shwezigon Pagoda. Then, make a visit to one of the famous workshops to see the ancient technique of lacquerware making. Make your way to the Wetkyi - In Gubyaukgyi Pagoda after that to admire its unique frescoes before heading back to the ship for lunch.
In the afternoon, there are two options for you to choose from. You could pay a visit to the fabulous Mount Popa - home to Nats of the region. Your journey includes a stop at a toddy palm plantation.
For the second option, you will make your way to Myinkaba Village where there is a visit to the revered Manuha Pagoda and the beautiful temple of Gubyaukyi. Your excursion then will move to the Minnanthu Village for a stunning walking tour around the beautiful village.

Disembark the ship for a wonderful discovery around Burmese’s former royal capital – Ava. Horse cart will be our main transportation. The tour includes some notable sites such as the ancient Bagaya Kyaung monastery, Maha Aung Mye Bonzan monastery and Nanmyint watch tower.
Return to Anawrahta cruise for lunch. The ship will then sail to the north to Mandalay. Don’t miss a chance to admire the beauty of Sagaing Hill where hundreds of white and golden stupas located.
Around 2:00 p.m, moor at Mandalay.
In the afternoon, a splendid tour shows us some of the most special spots of Mandalay. Experience the amazing process of the gold-leaf beating, have a look inside a silk-weaving manufacturer and take a walk through captivating streets with many marble-carving workshops. And then, the best moment of the day approaches. Enjoy a sunset cruise around the world’s longest teak bridge – U Bein.

Have your breakfast before we start our tour discovering magnificent Buddhist constructions in Mandalay.
The trip continues with a visit to Kuthodaw Pagoda, also known as “the world’s largest book”. This site comprises a gilded temple and 729 shrines containing marble slabs inscribed with Buddha teaching. Next, we head to Mahamuni Pagoda where is home to the most sacred Buddha statue of the country. Another point of interest is the sophisticated wooden architecture of Shwenandaw Monastery – the sole surviving construction of the Royal Palace.
Back on the ship to have lunch while Anawrahta continues its journey to Mingun. Here, you will have a chance to admire the magnificent architecture of Mingun Paya which was intentionally left unfinished. The king who ordered to build this pagoda has canceled the process himself due to the prophecy of his death if the stupa was completed.
Keep on walking, we will approach close to the world’s second-biggest bell – Mingun Bell.

Around 12:00 p.m, check–in Anawrahta cruise at Bagan for some refreshments and warm greetings.
While the ship sails towards Pakokku – an old trading town located on the west bank of the Irrawaddy river, you will have a chance to see the longest bridge of Myanmar – Pakokku Bridge.
Upon arrival in Pakokku, we will pay a visit to some traditional workshops such as Cheroot-rolling (Burmese cigar) and flip – flops making.
Next, we head to the local market where you can find a wide range of local produces. This is not only a place where you can get a glimpse of the local life but also a perfect place to buy Burmese cigars.
We continue to visit a special temple where is home to precious seated Buddha images and contains meticulous carvings made from rare Yamanei wood – Shwegu. Return Anawrahta cruise to keep sailing northwards.
As the twilight comes, expect a special event occurring at the Kipling’s Bar. Dress on your best suites and join in the back – in – time party with many stories about the British – Burmese days.
Dinner will be served at the Hintha Hall. Movie night will also take place on the sun deck if the weather allows.
Early birds will have a chance to attend a yoga class in the very first sunray of the day. The ship continues to sail up the river. Enjoy your breakfast as the ship sails passing through the intersection of the Irrawaddy and its greatest tributary, Chindwin River.
Our first destination today is the pottery village of Yanderbo. This small village has a big history of where to sign the Treaty of Yandabo which put an end to the 1st Anglo – Burmese war. Today, it is well – known for making pottery products, especially Yandabo’s pots can keep the water cooler. Our knowledgeable guide will explain to you more on the trip.
Walk around the village to experience the local life. You can also try to make your own pottery items.
An exquisite lunch buffet will be served when guests return on board. The boat continues its adventure up to the North. Choose to lie lazily on the bench of the sundeck watching the scenery or rejuvenate yourself in some amazing spa treatments.
In the afternoon, Longyi wearing (Burmese traditional dress) and Thanaka applying (Burmese natural cosmetic) demonstrations, as well as lectures about Burmese’s history and culture, will be provided.

ANAWRAHTA CRUISE POLICY
1. Alteration of schedule and cruise itinerary
Though every effort will be made to ensure that the published itinerary is followed as closely as possible, given uncertain river and other local conditions, all schedules and itineraries may be subject to alterations and delays at short notice.
2. Deposit
2.1. For booking with less than 05 cabins
If a booking is made more than 70 days prior departure date, a 30% deposit must be made at the time of booking. A balance must be made at least 70 days before departure.
If a booking is made less than 70 days, full fare payment must be made within 48 hours.
2.2. For booking from 05 cabins and more
Please contact our sales team for group rates (charters, group, and series). Different inclusions may apply for GIT bookings.
3. Cancellation by us
In the event that we are unable to provide cruise services to passengers with confirmed bookings or departures where occupancy is less than 5 cabins, Anawrahta Cruise reserves the right to cancel the journey giving all passengers with confirmed bookings 30 days prior notice of this intention. An alternative cruise vessel (similar itinerary and ship category) or an alternative departure date will be offered subject to availability. Any surcharges or difference in cruise prices will be born or reimbursed by Anawrahta Cruise. If this alternative date or the alternative vessel is not acceptable to the passenger any down payments made for the canceled cruise will be refunded. In the event that a passenger has canceled and paid cancellation fees and Anawrahta Cruise subsequently cancels that departure then any cancellation fees (and down payment) will be refunded in full on the request of the passenger.
4. Cancellation by Customer
If you want to cancel your booking, you must inform us via fax or email. E-mail cancellation or booking amendments are only effective once re-confirmed by us. The followings cancellation charges will be applied:
4.1. For booking with less than 05 cabins
Cancellations made 185 days or more before departure: 5% charge of the total price
Cancellations made 184 to 70 days prior to departure: 20% charge of the total price
Cancellations made 69 to 35 days prior to departure: 55% charge of the total price
Cancellations made less than 35 days prior to departure or no show: 100% charge of the total price
4.2. For booking from 05 cabins and more
Cancellations will be applied according to the condition of a group booking. Please contact our sales team for further information.
*In the event of cancellations, wire fees and credit card commissions will be deducted when calculating refunds.
5. Child & Third Person Policy
Anawrahta Cruise allows children above 5 years old on board (contact us for special permission for infants below 5 years old).
a) Maximum one child between 5 and 12 years old per cabin sharing bed with parents
b) From 5 to 12 years old special child rate applies:
- Child share existing bedding pays 25% of the net rate per person (double occupancy).
- Child sleeps on extra bed pays 30% of the net rate per person (double occupancy).
c) Above 12 years old adult rate applies and has to occupy extra bed if available and pay 70% of the net rate per person (double occupancy). Extra bed available (all cabin types).
d) Maximum three passengers per cabin are allowed
NOTE: Children are only allowed on board in accompanying by an adult. Anawrahta Cruise is not responsible for the safety on board of the children. Parents are fully reliable for their children and have to supervise and police their children at all times.
6. Insurance
We strongly advise travelers to purchase trip cancellation insurance. In this case, guests will be reimbursed the cost of air tickets and other non-refundable trip payments. We also highly recommend guests to get international medical, baggage loss and delay insurance in the case of bad situations. Anawrahta Cruise will take no responsibility for lost or stolen personal belongings.
7. Dietary needs
For travelers with special dietary needs, they should contact us at least 30 days prior to embarkation. The cruise liner will make the utmost effort to provide special dietary needs and requests basing on the product’s availability.
8. Travelers’ responsibilities
All the travelers taking the cruise should take responsibilities towards their fellow passengers and the crew of the ship. Travelers should review the conditions of the trip itinerary and have a proper social behavior with fellow passengers and crew members. They should observe all the safety requirements on board and on excursions.
